A BRIEF HISTORY

David Hall, along with Alan Willis his then partner formed IAS Loudspeakers in 1978.

Around that time David had also developed the special Horn loading with the indeterminate length that became the system that all his future designs were based on.

David had previously been building transmission line speakers since 1976. However, after meeting Alan Willis (who had introduced him to Horn loaded speakers) David then developed a Horn loading that allowed for smaller cabinet designs with much improved the sound that IAS designed and built back then. The IAS Beaulieu was developed in 1980 and became a Vintage Classic design.

David departed the HiFi scene for a number of years, until he later became involved with reviving the Beaulieu Speaker System. Many years previously back in 1978, IAS built their first large speaker design and that was named the Cadnam.

Therefore, David thought it appropriate that the name Cadnam was chosen for the new company, named after a small Village near Bournemouth, England.

THE ADVANCEMENT OF THE CADNAM RANGE OF LOUDSPEAKERS

Rather than continue his association with the revived IAS and the Beaulieu 40R, (David Hall the original designer of IAS cabinets) including the Beaulieu back in 1980; decided to establish Cadnam Audio with Gareth and Thomas Ellis in order to create a superiour range of loudspeaker systems than he and his late partner Alan Willis achieved over 40 years previously.

Initially David designed a slightly larger version of the Beaulieu cabinet, using the exact same Volt unit used in the later IAS Beaulieu. However, it soon became evident that Volt had just released their amazing new technology a 10” Radial chassis unit with a low fs that is required for David’s designs.

David had already commissioned Volt to produce a 6.5” Bass/Midrange and an 8” Bass/Midrange to his requirements. These are used in the M-6 and M-8 Modifications were also made to his ‘indeterminate length horn loading’ that also resulted in a separate smaller horn loading chamber for the midrange units in the M-8 and M-10. This has allowed for an incredible spaciousness, openness and imaging resembling an ‘Open Baffle’ System.

For those who want a balanced loudspeaker system, without the room resonances, our M-10 Active Speaker using a very high-quality Amplifier which also has a DSP system capable of adjusting the loudspeakers to the listener’s own room.

Because of the very solid Bass reproduction of Cadnam Loudspeakers, it creates a superb listening stage for the replication of Music, which is what David set out to do back in the mid 1970’s. The Bass performance of the Cadnam range sets the standard for the musical reproduction of good quality recorded music.

THE LEGACY OF DAVID HALL & IAS

The IAS Beaulieu was the ultimately designed loudspeaker built by IAS back in 1980.

For those who were fortunate enough to own a pair or still do; they were designed by David Hall and his late partner Alan Willis and many said they would never change them as they were then seen as the ultimate transducers of that era; and that Music lovers aspired to owning.

Thankfully David Hall along with his two new partners of the 21st Century; Gareth and his Son Thomas Ellis have now produced 2 new speakers that may have surpassed the detail and spaciousness that the Beaulieu achieved over 40 years ago. Those designs have now been realised in the M-8 and especially the M-10 that are now available from Cadnam Audio based in Welshpool, Wales.

THE ORIGINAL IAS CADNAM SPEAKER
